CPVC surged in popularity in the ‘90s, while PB pipe was taken off the market in the middle of the decade due leakage problems
Water Supply
Copper was still used, but in decline. Acidic water or soil found to cause pitting in some areas.
CPVC (cream-color plastic) became much more popular.
PB (gray plastic) was dogged by lawsuits for leakage damage from homeowner and taken off the market in 1996.
Drain (DWV)
ABS (black plastic) continued to be used, especially in mobile homes.
PVC (white plastic) was most the common DWV pipe.
